About our Carer Support services

If you have at least one child under five then we can help. We support thousands of parents just like you. We offer advice and support to families in Elmbridge who have a child or parent in the family with additional needs including physical or mental health difficulties.

How to access our services

Ideally you need to be referred to Home Start by a professional, or you can self-refer by contacting the Home Start office on our email address enquiries@home-start-elmbridge.org.uk and someone will contact you. You can also use the self referral form in the section below. 

A Home-Start Co-ordinator will then offer an initial first visit to discuss your needs and let you know about the other services Home-Start Elmbridge offer which could assist you and your family.

      Advice and support

      Working alongside your Family Support Coordinator we can visit you at home to help with the following:

      • Counselling for coping with diagnosis
      • Completing/helping with disability benefit forms for parents and children
      • Assisting with appeals where disability benefit application has been declined
      • Offer information and advice around disability related issues
      • Act as an advocate to support you to get disability related services needed for your children or yourself
      • Support with other disability related issues such as applying to local and national charities
      • Support with housing issues such as helping to complete the housing registration form online, help by writing a letter of support and by gathering and forwarding other medical evidence
      • Work with the Home-Start team to offer a holistic service to families
      • Work in partnership with other Early Help professionals (and make referrals where required)
      • Build support networks such as providing information and advice about local parent support groups, training for parents, stay and play and other sessions for children with additional needs
      • We offer advice, as your child moves forward to the next step, starting childcare nursery or primary school

      We provide a listening ear and experience of working with parents who have been through this before.

      What we do

      We help access support and services for the child or adult and help those who care for them. This can include advocacy for parents; offering support at meetings or contacting professionals on their behalf to ensure all support and services are in place.

       Additionally we empower you to self-advocate. Parents of children with a disability can often feel at times that statutory services are working against them rather than with them and need support to be able to state their needs and advocate on behalf of both themselves and their child. We can help you do this.
